Kris Hernandez Staff Writer School parking has always been an issue at Logan High. Some students are forced to park almost a block away from school because of the lack of parking spaces. One issue is that our parking lots aren’t big enough, also, this year, construction has been taking up a good proportion of the English parking lot. There aren’t as many drivers at the beginning of the year, but throughout the year more and more sophomores get their licenses, making it harder to find parking spaces. Students are forced to crowd their cars at the abandoned gas station down the street of the school. Martin Suasnavas, a current student at Logan High, is always having trouble finding parking. “I don’t have a first or second hour, so I come to school later than most of the other students. I have to park all the way down the road from the school,” he said. "I have to park all the way down the road from the school." Parking used to be easier with the bigger parking lot at the Rec Center and the full English parking lot, but throughout the years the Rec Center parking lot became smaller due to the size of the new school.
“I remember how big the Rec Center parking lot used to be, but now it’s only about half as big,” said Suasnavas. Many students have parked illegally in the front and in the Rec Center parking lot last year and this year. They are usually warned, but some students have received parking tickets and others have been warned about being towed. Students have parked in fire hazard areas in the parking lots, and some have parked outside of the parking spaces making it hard to drive around in the parking lot. The old, abandoned Grizzly gas station has recently been used for parking. It fits a good amount of cars and isn’t too far from the school. The only downside is after school when students are trying to leave, and it is too crowded to get out. Students can’t park in the bakery across the Rec Center because that parking lot is used for customers only and students can be towed if they park in there.
