Tori Geller Editor-in-Chief In 2008 when Barack Obama was elected as the 44th president of the United States, everyone seemed to know a lot about him, including his family. People talked about his daughters Sasha and Malia, his wife Michelle and even the family dog Bo. In fact, according to the New York Times, within a week of his presidency, Barack, Obama, Michelle, Malia and Sasha became inspirations for first and middle names across the United States. So why is it then that no one seems to know about Donald Trump’s family? If asked one might be able to name his daughter Ivanka, maybe his wife Melania, but that's probably it. Here’s a short summary of the Trump family. Now please don't start naming your kids Donald, but it's good to know more about our First Family. Starting off with Fred and Mary Anne Trump, these two would be Donald Trump’s parents. Fred Trump was successful in real estate, bringing up a company that Donald would later take over. Fred and Mary Anne had five kids, starting with the oldest, Maryanne, who is now a federal appeal court judge. They then had Fred Jr, an airline pilot; Elizabeth, an executive assistant at Chase Manhattan bank; Donald, we all know; and Robert, president of his father's property management company.
Fred Jr. died from complications with alcoholism at the age of 42. This, interestingly is why Donald Trump has never, and will never drink. Donald said he saw what his brother went through and “you can’t get addicted if you never start.” Donald Trump went on to have five children of his own. Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric with his first wife Ivana Zelníčková; Tiffany with his second wife Marla Maples; and Barron with his third and current wife Melania. Donald Jr. and his wife have five children, and Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, have three, making Donald Trump a grandfather of eight. As far as I could tell there are no immediate family pets. Now please don’t start naming your kids Donald, but it’s good to know more about our first family. Take a minute and do some research for yourself, learn more about our president than just his policies or his tweets. You might find something interesting!
