Marvin Rosales Staff writer Former Logan High Soccer player Jonathan Guadarrama, age 16, moved to Arizona for the start of a new journey with the Real Salt Lake Academy. Jonathan Guadarrama has been playing soccer ever since he was 3. Watching soccer on T.V. was something that really inspired him to start playing, and to this day, he still loves watching soccer and playing it at the same time. “Soccer is in my blood! It’s the best sport in the world, and it’s just too much fun to stop playing it,” said Guadarrama. Ever since he gained such a great passion for soccer, one of his biggest goals was to someday play professional soccer. Right now at the level he is playing in, his goal is to play college soccer and hopefully get drafted to a Major League Soccer team. So far at the RSL Academy, he feels grateful for attending such a big place to represent Utah. He is glad to have a shot and to start playing professional soccer soon.
Some of his inspirations include Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Ronaldinho, great players who have become legends and players who Jonny aspires to be like. Guadarrama has played with many local teams like The Aggies, La Roca, Northern Utah United and Infinity. He has also achieved many great things with the ODP state team, Logan High School soccer team, and with other clubs in big tournaments all around the west region. Logan High soccer was one of his most memorable experiences. He was awarded all region mid-fielder 2 years in a row, started playing varsity as a freshman, and made it to state finals that same year. “I never thought I would make it this far until I started making achievements, like placing in the top 11 players in nationals and top 18 in the west region,” said Guadarrama. His other achievements include taking first place in Nationals; training with professional soccer team, The Real Monarchs; and best of all, joining the RSL Academy.
